Marianne Mitchell is an award-winning author of twelve books for young readers and more than 300 short stories and articles in children's magazines, especially Highlights for Children and Highlights High Five. She writes in multiple genres including folktales, mysteries, historical fiction and adventure. As an Arizona native, Marianne often uses the West as a setting for her stories. She also taps into her own family's history for other stories.
Marianne has worked as a teacher at all levels but now writes full time. She loves reading, gardening and volunteering with her therapy dog. She lives in Oro Valley, Arizona with her husband, Jim, who is also a writer. Talking to kids about books and writing is one of her favorite activities. She offers tips on the writing process, shares how she turns ideas into stories, and encourages them to be eager readers.
